I'm sure you can all imagine that in a perfect world, all the wrongs are righted, justice prevails, the guy gets the girl, and Greater Anglia trains run on schedule.
Please note in a perfect world.
As I wolfed down my steak this morning, (last perishable item I had in my fridge) welcomed in the reality of a new family member and tried to shake of the fatigue that anxiety and last minute last minute planning so staying up past reasonable hours to get stuff done, always brings I could hardly have imagined the treat in store for me in the form of Abelio Greater Anglia.
Getting to Liverpool street earlier than I needed to and having thus purchased my ticket, I was suddenly greeted with that message of chaos that strikes fear into a train travelers heart. 8.30m DELAYED. 8.50am DELAYED. 9.10 and so on. By the time the cancellations started rolling in and the always steadfast and less than helpful information officer shrugged with the full apathy only a British rail worker or an interrogator in the NKVD could pull off.
Needless to say in classic fashion I was left with rail tickets I couldn't use and a bus I might not catch. I decided on the bus, as rapid cancellations did not fill me with confidence. I managed to arrive in time to join the back of a queue of like minded people.
I was literally the last person let on the bus, and while I felt for my fellow beings, I was secretly rejoicing not catching the next bus, more delays and then practically stripping to get to through airport security quickly.
That was also a process, as I could swear that I got stopped and frisked by that security guards for ulterior motives. Who knows. I made it through. Now I do hate airports in general, but Stansted has this weird snail cone design so you have to pass through all the duty free. Sadly the world of Whiskey isn't established in my neck of the woods, though its nice to know the real values of whiskeys. I prefer peated myself.
The flight was uneventful, I stand by my adage that the only fun parts are take off and landing.
Then on to Oviedo, which will happen in 15 minutes, 9 hours bus ride which means I will have to sleep on the bus and go from there in the morning.
At least the beers cheap! To the start of the Camino!
To my patrons Brendan Mills, Renee Rushbrook, Carlos Ara.
And a big welcome to my newest Nephew, Marshall!
Sam.
